Falconry as a UNESCO heritage in Germany

I.                   Falconry is the training, care and hunting with the help of a bird of prey. Feathered and furred game are the targets of hunting.

II.                The hunt takes place while a nobleman goes on a hunt. Traditionally he takes his falcon with him. The falcon is later rushed to small animals to kill the prey.

III.             It is an ancient tradition of Germany. But not only Germany represents the tradition. 18 countries together share this heritage. Most of them belong many Arab states and also Spain and Portugal have this tradition.

IV.             In 2010 it has been listed in the UNESCO World Heritage for Intangible Heritage.

V.               It probably originated about 3,500 years ago in Central Asia. It was a functional hunting form for the uncovered steppe.

VI.             In the 13th century Emperor Friedrich II wrote a famous book "about the art to hunt with birds". The book was written in Latin. He described how to hunt with falcons. Falcons are especially important because they were the symbol of the nobility. The book is titled as Friedrich’s timeless book because it has effects until today and still counts as a standard (despite being the oldest scientific book about birds).
