Visit to Barcelona Zoo

Last Friday, our group of seven students from the Erasmus+ program went to the Zoo of Barcelona. First, the Zoo's guide that was with us made us a little introduction about what we were going to do, and he answered a few questions that we had. Then we began the tour, and it basically consisted in walking and stopping in the different animals' enclosures, while he explained why so many species are nowadays endangered. He also  told us how the Zoo is working to save different species from extinction and how its purposes had been changing through the years. For instance, the Zoo is working in different reintroduction programs and also their animals serve as a source of genetic variability.

Finally we visited the facilities where the Zoo is making a EU Life program about the recovery of the Montseny Newt, a small endangered Catalan amphibian. There, we could interview Manel Aresté, main curator of amphibian and reptiles of the Barcelona Zoo. He showed us what they were doing in this project and its significance. Finally we also interviewed our guide to prepare an activity we will present in Germany.
